Nevada Broadband Telemedicine Initiative Ribbon Cutting Event

Technology provides patients in rural Nevada with access to care through telemedicine

What: The Nevada Hospital Association (NHA) is excited to announce that the Nevada Broadband Telemedicine Initiative (NBTI) is complete and an official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at Desert View Hospital in Pahrump. In 2010, the NHA received a $19.6 million federal grant through the NTIA's Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP), funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), to build and operate the NBTI, a state-wide fiber network to provide carrier-grade broadband services to hospitals, healthcare facilities, non-profits, government agencies and others. This technology provides access to care for patients in rural Nevada through telemedicine.

The NBTI is the result of a federal Broadband Technology Opportunity Program Grant awarded to the NHA. It is the first all-fiber broadband connection between Reno and Las Vegas, and the NHA was excited to collaborate with Switch in 2016 on the completion of the project. This initiative will provide a foundation for economic growth, job creation and the delivery of technology services to both metro and rural Nevada for decades to come.
