Nevada Hospital Association Awarded H-1B Rural Healthcare Grant
Association tapped to address rural healthcare workforce shortages Nevada
Reno, Nev. (March 6, 2021) – The Nevada Hospital Association (NHA), in partnership with NevadaWorks, has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the Employment and Training Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, for the H-1B Rural Healthcare Grant Program. The 100 percent federally-funded, four-year grant will be administered by the NHA with NevadaWorks serving as the fiscal agent.
The purpose of the H-1B Rural Healthcare Grant is to alleviate healthcare workforce shortages in rural counties by creating sustainable employment and training programs. The H-1B grant will serve underemployed, underserved and unemployed individuals who are looking to move into the healthcare field. The H-1B grant will support education and training models in a healthcare-related field and fill vacancies in 12 northern rural counties where an acute need has been identified. Counties include:
- Carson
- Churchill
- Douglas
- Elko
- Humboldt
- Lander
- Lincoln
- Lyon
- Mineral
- Nye
- Pershing
- White Pine
“We are excited to be able to make an impact in helping develop Nevada’s health care workforce,” Bill M. Welch, President and CEO of the Nevada Hospital Association, said. “The NHA will foster collaboration between the participant, the employer and community health partners to enhance recruitment and retention of healthcare program graduates in finding well-paying jobs in the healthcare sector.”
The NHA will provide job placement advocacy and supportive services to participants. NHA staff will conduct one-on-one interviews with qualifying participants to determine eligibility as well as to determine their interest aligns with the allowable H-1B grant requirements.
